Great work mate! :D :D :D
I second that. And third, and forth...
Especially if you keep in mind all those bickering Germans (well, the one that is...;) )
The next pint (or whatever) is on me, Liam.
And: good job indeed...

Hi!
Here's an early one for you...

They played a headlining gig at Leeds Irish Centre on Tuesday 9th August 1994. I was there and still have the stub :)
While the second support band (Out Of My Hair) played,Ed,Ty,Andy and Jim all came out into the audience at seperate points to watch. I was too scared to go ask them for their autographs....DOH!
It was a great gig and i also still have 2 'Gordon' baseball caps from the merch stall!

Thank you for the info! Wow, that is old-school! So that must have been as part of the Maybe You Should Drive tour? I don't suppose you know if it was part of a string of dates or just a one off, as I don't have any other UK dates for 1994?

Thanks again, and welcome to the board! :)

I'm pretty sure it would have been a tour. They had 2 support acts (one was called Out Of My Hair, who were receiving a bit of a record company push at the time, but were pretty dreadful!) and they previewed tracks from 'MYSD' which was due out a few weeks later,i think.

I also saw them play the Heineken Free Music Festival in Roundhay Park,Leeds, but i can't pin a definite date on it. After Googling and seeing which other bands were playing that day that i vaguely remember,i think it was 10th July 1994,but don't hold me to it!
Was anyone else here into BNL around that time that can confirm it?
I'm gonna get in touch with my brother who went to the gig with me and see if he can shed some light!

I'll be able to provide some exact dates if I manage to dig out my ticket stubs at home but here goes with the early years from a Scottish perspective ....

They were in the UK some time late in 1992, and played something like a North American Music Festival in London that was broadcast on radio (headliner was either Nanci Griffth or Emmylou Harris) and they were on the BBC tv show Pebble Mill. This was the first time I heard them. I don't think there was a proper tour though.

They toured the UK twice in 1993, and played King Tut's in Glasgow three times that year, once in January and two nights in a row some time in the summer. This fits in with Randypan's July 1993 Leeds date. Pretty sure that they played The Venue in Edinburgh the night after Glasgow in January as well but I didn't make it to that one. I still have my Kurt Swinghammer caricature t-shirt from these gigs. :D

The Little Tiny Tour in 1994 was the week before MYSD was released, and they played The Garage in Glasgow. Again, this fits in with Randypan's August 1994 Leeds date. I lost my tartan baseball cap from this gig on holiday a few years later.

Pirate Ship tour was 1996, pretty sure that this was the year they played T In The Park (http://www.songkick.com/festivals/1926- ... -park-1996 agrees) because there were no other Scottish dates (festival exclusivity and all that) and we down to the Sheffield Leadmill gig instead.

There was then a long wait while they broke American with Rock Spectacle, and then the support dates with Beautiful South, until the proper Stunt tour in November 1999, and the Glasgow Barrowlands gig (which I have on CD somewhere).

After that, things are better documented, and I think you've pretty much got it.

scuttler - thank you SO much for your help, and welcome! :D

I will update this. Need to investigate exact dates and venues, so yes any ticket stubs with info would be great!

I like hearing about the early days. Shame I wasn't born a decade earlier and could've seen those shows!

I was at the Leadmill gig too! Met Ed afterwards outside the venue and got him to sign my '$1000000 Dollars' CD single :)

OK, managed to find all my stuff (ticket stubs, flyers, setlists) in it's shoe box (well, box file, actually :D).

Anything in brackets, I've done a bit of Googling to back up some rusty memories, anything not in brackets is definite.

The 1992 festival is earlier than I thought, but fits with the Yellow Tape being released as a CD single over here that summer. I'm sure they did Enid on Pebble Mill, and that was the first proper single from Gordon.

I can't remember the name of the support band in 1993 for love nor money, they were up from London (so presumably on the same record label), actually pretty good, and did You Could Have Been Anything That You Wanted To Be from Bugsy Malone as an encore, but I can't remember anything else.

3. Bungee Girl
4. I'm a Coward
5. Baseball Playing Spider

BNL:

3. Shopping in Birmingham (improv.)
4. Sound of Your Voice

6. Another Postcard

14. Angry People
15. Pinch Me
16. Break Your Heart

Hope that helps out a little and apologies for the occasional shortening of song titles.
